Ethics Working Group

Munkacsoport

Leader: András Bácsfalvi

Our Mission:

The objective of the working group is to raise the standard of business ethics in Hungary, with a particular focus on promoting a business environment free from corruption, illegal employment, and fraud. Its members are compliance experts from HBLF member companies, who meet 3 to 5 times a year as part of the working group sessions.

Past activities

2025

In 2025, the working group met a total of four times. Key topics discussed during the sessions included: best practices for investigating ethical violations and conducting background checks; compliance training for frontline staff and lessons learned from such training; ethical and practical considerations regarding sanctions; and compliance with competition law.

2024

In 2024, the working group met three times. The first meeting of the year was a joint event of the HR and Ethics Working Groups, focusing on creating a healthy, safe, and fair workplace environment. In the following sessions, the working group examined the issue of conflict of interest from various perspectives, also presenting the practices of the MVM Group. In the spring, the HBLF Ethics Working Group issued a sector-independent recommendation on conflicts of interest.

2023

In 2023, the working group met six times. The year began with a session where Ferenc Biró, President of the Integrity Authority, provided insight into the everyday operations and planned activities of the newly established anti-corruption authority. On two occasions, the group addressed the introduction and operation of whistleblowing systems, with the professional support of Hegymegi-Barakonyi and Fehérváry Baker & McKenzie Attorneys-at-Law, as well as EY Hungary.
Led by Shell Hungary, members learned about best practices for handling conflict-of-interest situations. In October 2023, the HBLF hosted the now-traditional Compliance Garden Party, bringing together professionals from the field for networking and exchange. At the year-end meeting, E.ON Hungária Zrt. gave a presentation on partner due diligence practices.
